Day 12 : Tue 7th Oct

Steve and Brad Schofield are going into Sigatoka for a massage to which Kina says “That will be a big man walking on your back.” By the pool is a BRIG where the pool attendant stays and where the guys who misbehave are put for however long the tour disciplinary committee deems appropriate. One of the boys may be let out before we leave. This is the brig and a view inside.

After breakfast the morning is free followed by a choice of Golf at the Fijian Resort or Jet Boat ride on the Sigatoka river.
The drive to the Jet Boat is via Sigatoka so coffee’s can be taken, and then out along the river road. We arrive at the small cabin by the side of the road, sign our lives away – the guys are getting used to this now – and get a motivational chat from the guide. He used to drive the same boats in New Zealand and arrived back this morning. His assurances that he is not jet lagged and remembers how the river looks do not assure us. It was amazing, scary and a real thrill. 45 minutes on the water dodging snags, horses and kids swimming across to school.

The golfing bus went to the Fijian. It was important that each person took a bucket of sand to fill in any holes they may inadvertently make in the ground. Jayke and Kale decided they needed at least a wheelbarrow each of sand for the first hole. Never a truer word spoken in jest.

Some of the guys were there to golf it and some were there to flog it. The result of this was a serious sense of humour failure. Each ball cost $2.50 and therefore some of the guys went through their hole tour stash in the one round. The winning four all lost a ball on the first hole – shows how good the others were. Do to excessive dehydration there was a skulling competition after the last hole. Water of course.

Some of the players and parents walked out to the break. Easily a half a kilometer walk and then did some snorkelling. The reef life was awesome, colourful and incredibly varied. We even got to snorkel on the edge of the outer coral reef – big fish half meter long.

Presentations tonight for the best and fairest of each team at the end of tour dinner. I am now off to the dinner to have an orange juice or two.

BYE and see you in Aus.
